Favourite Things Friday

Sorry this is a little bit hastily put together in the 5 minutes before school pick up.

Those that know me well know that I cannot hand sew without my trusty thimblelady thimble, so much so that I have been known to get in an absolute panic when I lose it (so now I have 2, one of which is still in its original package put somewhere safe, just don't know where at the minute).   This is the old style of her thimble, which can be used for all sewing not the funny cone one that is for hand quilting (which I don't do very much of).  The blue one is a new silicone one that I have been using to save my index finger and when I really do too much there are two more in the packet that I can use on my left hand.  You see I find that I use different fingers when I sew (especially embroidery) not just the one with the thimble on it and they all get red raw.

So my silver thimble is my favourite thing this week and has been for quite a number of years and doesn't show any sign of wearing out so I might be old and grey by the time I have to use that other one.
Check out more favourite things here.

To prevent blood loss...I can see why your thimble would be a favorite. ;o) Visiting from FTF. Thanks for sharing. Happy Friday! :o) Larri at Seams Inspired

Where did you get your silver thimble Amanda? It looks well used and like it "fits" you perfectly.

I will confess I havent ever used a thimble...but then I don't do all that much hand sewing either.

Being a crafty type - although nowehere near as crafty as you - I love that you chose this for your FTF post.

Now that is a really good FTF thing! You can tell you would be lost without it :-)

I'll have to remember this brand when I get around to hand quilting seriously. I just don't have the patience right now for it but I know some day I will. :)

A very good thing to post for FTF, I absolutely have to have one of my thimbles for hand sewing. I have a leather one and a silicone one.

I'm always interested in what thimbles work for people, since I've had a love/hate relationship with them as long as I can remember. I finally found one I can live with for now (it's leather), but it's good to know why you love yours. Thanks!

Sometimes it's the very small things in life that can be so special. I hand-quilt, and although my thimble isn't anything outstanding--standard metal covering the tip of the finger--I sure couldn't quilt without it. Cool favorite thing!

I have my great grandmother's thimble but she was about 6 inches shorter than I am and had tiny fingers--I can only get it on my pinky! I like the type you show and will have to try one.

your timing is impeccable. i have open wounds on my right index finger at present from hand quilting. i have tried (albeit quite briefly) to use a silicone thimble and they just don't do it for me. i would love to know where you got yours and give it a go.
