Favourite Things Friday

I know it kinda looks a bit like Slack Tea Thursday, but this is actually breakfast and it is my FFF for this week.

I usually have a poached egg on vegemite toast for breakfast.  For any northerners reading this Vegemite is a Yeast Extract that lots of aussies love (probably just as many don't).  As you can see by the lumpy bits I love Vegemite.

And why is this FFF it is because that poached egg is perfect.  Many a morning has been spoiled because the egg is not perfect and it is a bit hit and miss.  At the moment I put the egg in the rapidly boiling water take the slotted spoon and make sure I losen it from the bottom of the saucepan then leave it to cook just enough, runny yoke is key.  This system seems to be working most of the time.  I hate it when the yoke breaks as I am trying to drain it and I have to east soggy toast and only white of the egg.

The eggs themselves are organic eggs from the Organic Market once a fortnight.  The yokes are BRIGHT YELLOW and they are the best eggs you are ever likely to taste.

For more FFF head on over to Mrs P

Though I like Vegemite I don't like it that thick but poached eggs are a favourite on mine too. Your sound particularly delicious.

Looks like a perfectly poached egg today! :o) I've never tried Vegemite. Is it salty? I'm guessing it must be, since it's derived from yeast.

Thanks for sharing. Happy Friday! :o) Larri

Thank you for explaining what Vegemite is, I had not idea. The toast and egg look great, I have to reserve judgement on the Vegamite!

A favorite food is a fabulous favorite. Okay, I'll admit the one time I tried vegemite I knew it had to be an acquired taste, but I'll never disrespect someone's favorite food. :-)

The poached egg and toast looks lovely.

That does look like a picture perfect poached egg. I can't comment on Vegemite, since I've never had it, but the egg on toast look yummy. I'm going to pretend Vegemite tastes like blackberry or black currant jam (I know it doesn't taste like anything of the sort though).

We've been enjoying organic, free-range eggs lately too, courtesy of a coworker and newbie chicken farmer. They are wonderful!

Hmmm, where do I start? OK I'll be positive first. It's great that your favourite thing for breakfast is so easy and quick, and that you have perfected poaching eggs.
Now, if you served me that I would run screaming from the room, (or possibly throw up). I am not a fan of poached eggs and I think you probably know what I think of Vegemite, I have a running battle with Mrs P over the love/hate of it, and having road tar that thick on toast, eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww.
Back to being positive, organic eggs are the best they are so fresh, tasty and have beautiful colour yokes.

I cant poach eggs to save myself, but I love them. I completely agree also that organic/free range eggs look and taste completely different .

You and I appear to be vegemite sisters because I spread mine WAY thick too. How are you going to taste it otherwise?

Can you pop on over and give me an egg poaching lesson?

I can't believe there is a whole continent of people who like vegemite. Still, you get points for presentation -- the egg is beautiful and it looks nice atop your vegemite toast. Thanks for sharing!
